Yoga for Female Empowerment with Janna

The workshops « Yoga for Female Empowerment“, designed by Advanced Certified Jivamukti Teacher, Janna Aljets, and are aimed at women who want to break free from gender norms, social pressure and explore their full potential. The practice of yoga is a powerful tool to create personal empowerment and support from sister communities. The workshops shall create a safe space for everybody and will work with asana, pranayama, music, meditation, visualizations, as well as partner exercises. The workshop series are taught as a holistic sequence, however each workshop may be booked separately.

    Session I: Yoga & Feminism, October 12, 1.30-3.30pm

What has yoga to do with feminism? Do we still need today feminist thinking or don’t we have equal rights already? In this workshop we want to explore the philosophical foundations and physical practices of yoga through feminist lenses. Although yoga has been for many centuries a male-only domain, the yoga practices give women a powerful tool to explore their womanhood. In this workshop we will focus on our female bodies, working on acceptance and self-esteem and devotion. Furthermore, we will use current feminist theory on queerness to overcome dualities between the sexes as well as between people. Yoga means union with all beings and for all beings, freedom and liberation for all.

Session II: Yoga & Female Menstruation, October 26, 1.30-3.30pm

The female body is heavily influenced by the cycle of our menstruation. Very often, we are not able to perceive this, since we have to « function“ the same way all the time. However, our body and our emotional state are strongly affected by the different phases of our menstruation cycle: Before our ovulaton we are usually full of strength and drive, after it we are more inward-minded and tend to prefer retreat and reflection. The last phase, the menstruation itself, is then the time to let go and overcome in order to create space for new things. How can we start to pay attention to our cyclic nature and use them for us spiritually? Which practices of yoga support us in feeling fine with ourselves in all phases of our cycle? What helps us to overcome pain during the period and should I practice handstand? In this workshop we will practice and explore together the power oft he female cycle, so we can better understand it and live with it accordingly.

Learn Thaï Yoga Massage with Ramone

In this workshop you will learn a basic 30-minute full-body Thai Massage sequence that you can use at home to heal and relax your friends, family or give your yoga students the best Savasana ever!

Thai Yoga Massage is an ancient healing practice that releases physical tension from the body and calms your nervous system to create deep relaxation and energetic balance.

Thai Yoga Massage has many similarities to Yoga, including the use of synchronised breathing and stretching performed in a flowing sequence.

Sometimes called ‘lazy man’s Yoga’, due to its use of passive stretching and myofascial release techniques, a good Thai Yoga Massage actually benefits both the patient and the practitioner.

Always delivered with an intention of ‘Metta’ or ‘loving kindness’, Thai Massage is an excellent way to deepen relationships, learn to give and receive compassion unconditionally and listen deeply with your mid and body as you become a conduit for healing.

Beginning with a short partner Yoga practice to warm up you’ll work in partners to learn a simple but effective Thai Yoga Massage that will relax the whole body!

Don’t worry if you don’t have a partner to attend with, you can still come along and meet a partner on the day!

Thai Massage is always conducted fully clothed so all you’ll need to participate are your regular yoga clothes or any loose, comfortable long pants and top.

Open to all students*. Discount for certified Yoga Teachers. (*Please advise if you are pregnant as certain techniques are not suitable but can be adapted to keep you safe).

No prior experience of Yoga or Thai massage is required – just an open mind, a willingness to learn and openness to connecting with others!

Thai Yoga massage is a fun way to bond with your partner or child and an excellent introduction to delivering hands-on assists for qualified Yoga teachers (YACEP certificate available).

    About Ramone

Ramone has been a student and practitioner of Thai Yoga Massage for over 18 years. Studying with masters of the tradition in both Thailand and the west Ramone loves sharing the benefits of this ancient healing practice through workshops and private sessions.

The Art and Science of Sequencing: Designing Transformative Yoga Classes with Mark Stephens

    About the workshop

The art and science of sequencing invites us to design yoga classes that embody the essence of yoga, are a creative expression of the teacher, and informed by the insights of functional anatomy and biomechanics. Much like a dance choreographer, we learn to create classes that are beautiful in both their inner and outer aesthetics, empowering students to cultivate a sustainable practice. This approach avoids the irrational sequencing and related repetitive stress problems found in pre-set sequence methods such as Ashtanga Vinyasa and Bikram while giving structure to classes that can be random in their creativity.

Thus, this immersion focuses on designing the classes in a way that is shaped by the basic principles of sequencing, beginning with Krishnamacharya’s concepts of Vinyasa Krama and Pratikriyasana. We will design classes for different levels of ability, different areas of practice (for example, heart opening, hip opening, balancing, deeply relaxing, etc.), and other varied conditions and intentions. The workshop series consists of 10 sessions given in 4 days. Sessions can be followed individually and there is a group package for all 10 sessions.

    About the teacher

Mark is a dedicated yoga student whose personal experience of yoga’s promise to make life better inspires him to share the practice through teaching and scholarly writing. Described by Yoga Journal as “the teacher’s teacher,” he is a Certified Yoga Therapist, member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists, and author of the international bestsellers Teaching Yoga, Yoga Sequencing, Yoga Adjustments, and Yoga Therapy, now in nine languages. His newest book is Yoga for Better Sleep.

Mark is presently writing Yoga Myths, which explores folklore, fantasy, and science fiction in the histories, philosophies, and practices of yoga. From devoted personal practice, deep study of yoga history and philosophy, human anatomy and physiology, social and interpersonal dynamics, and eastern and western theories of being and consciousness, he brings a non-dogmatic, accessible, and integrated perspective to yoga therapy that makes yoga a more refined resource for healthy living.

Practicing yoga daily since 1991 and teaching since 1996, Mark draws from his prior years in academia, as an education consultant, and as a progressive social change activist to create practical resources for yoga teachers and therapists. In 1997, he founded Yoga Inside Foundation, establishing therapeutic yoga programs in over 300 schools, treatment centers, and prisons across North America, for which he received Yoga Journal’s 1st Annual Karma Yoga Award. Mark lives in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California and teaches globally.

9:00-12:30: Sequencing Theory, Principles, and Practices

In this foundational session, Mark will present the theory and principles of sequencing as a distillation of ancient to modern yoga experience and contemporary understandings of how the bodymind most naturally and sustainably opens, stabilizes, and balances. We will look closely at the interrelations of asanas in making creative choices in designing amazing and transformational yoga classes.

    Tuition: 60€

    13:30 – 17:30 Sequencing for Basic Classes

In this session, we will design yoga classes for beginning level students. Applying the concepts and sensibilities from the foundational session, we will collaboratively and creatively design these classes focusing on a balanced practice that is accessible to new students.

    Tuition: 60€

18:00 – 20:00 Masterclass All Level: Healthy Backs, Open Hearts

Fear of moving into the unknown is just one of the many challenges of backbending. Restriction in the spine, tightness in the shoulders, hips and groins, and weakness in the arms, legs and abdominal core all contribute to the difficulties one might encounter in stretching and opening the front of the body. At the heart of it all is the heart and a lifetime of embodied experience – every joy, trauma, hope and dream from childhood to the present moment pulsating inside to the rhythm of the heartbeat.

This workshop will utilize a variety of techniques – including heart-centered guided meditation, core integration, hip & groin openers, shoulder openers and spinal twists – to help you move safely and joyfully into a deeper back bending, heart opening practice. Mark will highlight the functional anatomy and biomechanics of movement and positioning that most lend to stability, ease, and opening more deeply to it all. (Prior knowledge of anatomy is not required.)

9:00 – 11:30 All Levels Dynamic Master Class: Asana, Pranayama, Meditation

Every yoga asana has an intrinsic beauty and integrity that can be more deeply revealed and polished by how it is approached on the path of a class. In many classes, asanas are taught as if in static separation from one another, while in other classes steady movement can distort the integrity of each asana. In dynamic approaches to yoga, we move steadily between the asanas, sometimes holding asanas and sometimes flowing through them. How we move, how we hold, and how we transition from movement to holding to more movement profoundly affects our experience of the practice.

In this masterclass, we will focus on making conscious transitions, exploring how the alignment qualities and energetic actions in one asana affects how we come to next asana. We will explore specific techniques for making transitions in ways that deepen the experience of the asanas while ensuring they are practiced safely and sustainably. We will begin and end with guided meditation and pranayama, exploring different techniques for cultivating energy and opening to clearer awareness.

    Tuition: 60€

13:00-17:30 Sequencing Core Integrity, Open Hips, and Arm Balances

Arm balances simultaneously require and help us to develop strength, flexibility, focus and openness. These qualities are heightened when movement into the pose involves hip mobility. More concentrated mental focus is harnessed when then moving into poses involving steadier balance, such as Adho Mukha Svanasana (Handstand) and Pincha Mayurasana (Forearm Balance). Practicing these asana sequences safely and consciously leads to equanimity, confidence and personal freedom well beyond the mat.

In this session, we will design classes that open the hips and awaken the core in ways that make arm support and arm balancing asanas easier, safer, and more enjoyable, with ample time to explore each arm-intensive asana.

    Tuition: 60€

18:00-19:30 Heart Centered Meditation for Self-Transformation

Why are you here? What are you doing? How are your basic intentions manifested in your life? Do you want to live in the most magnificent way you can? This evening class starts with a brief talk on living with greater clarity and purpose, then uses a series of heart-centered meditations to reveal and transcend self-limitation. Open to all.

    Tuition: 40€

    Sunday, 1 Dec

9:00 – 11:30 Deep Release of Tension, Deep Awakening of Awareness

Most of us experience some (or a lot of) stress as a normal part of living in the modern world, with much of that stress experienced in the body as well as the mind. Part of the sublime beauty of yoga is in its seemingly magical way of making us feel better everywhere. Yoga helps us learn how stress gets embodied in our tissues and how to let it go.

In this master class, we will explore a variety of asanas along with pranayama and mediation to deeply relax and release embodied tension. We will start with a 15-minute talk on the nature of embodied tension and the specific yogic techniques for relieving it and replacing it with embodied consciousness. Open to all levels.

« Do your practice and all is coming » – Sri K. Pattabhi Jois
