    Sunday May 12

10.30 am to 1 pm: Part II – Four Goals (Puruṣārtha) and 4 Stages of Life (Ashrama)

Puruṣārtha literally means “object of human pursuit”. It is a key concept in Hinduism which refers to the four main goals or aims of human life. The four puruṣārthas are Dharma (righteousness, moral values), Artha (prosperity, economic values), Kāma (love, desires, psychological values) and Mokṣha (liberation, spiritual values).

Ashrama (āśrama) is one of four age-based life stages discussed in ancient and medieval era Indian texts. The four ashramas are: Brahmacharya (student), Grihastha (householder), Vanaprastha (retired) and Sannyasa (renunciation). The Ashramas system is one facet of the Dharma concept in Hinduism. It is also a component of the ethical theories in Indian philosophy, where it is combined with four proper goals of human life (Purusartha), for fulfilment, happiness and spiritual liberation.

Open to all levels, beginners are welcome!
